Chris Plouffe to join 51FIFTY at Anaheim #2 – Jake Canada Questionable

Livingston, CA (January 16, 2014) – 51FIFTY is proud to announce the addition of Chris Plouffe to the team in advance of the Anaheim #2 Supercross.  51FIFTY rider Jake Canada is still feeling the effects of a hard crash at the previous round in Phoenix and while he remains optimistic about racing Anaheim 2, it will ultimately be a race day decision.

Our sponsors have been behind us 100% this year and we wanted to make sure the team and our sponsors were fully represented this weekend,” explains 51FIFTY owner Carlos Vieira. “While we are optimisticChris-Plouffe_team_member Jake will be able to race, we welcome Chris Plouffe to the team and are confident in his abilities on the track.”

Plouffe arrived in Phoenix last weekend with no support and his bone-stock #594 Honda CRF250.  In his only race, Plouffe turned heads transferring directly from his Heat to the Main where he finished inside the top 15.

“I got the call yesterday afternoon and can’t wait for this weekend,” says Chris Plouffe during a break from practice today at Milestone MX. “I felt I put in a strong ride last week and with the 51FIFTY support and a better race bike I expect better results at Anaheim.  I really appreciate the opportunity and will make the most of it.”

51FIFTY Rider has Highs and Lows in AZ

Jake Canada Phoenix Supercross Report

Livingston, CA (January 14, 2014) – 51FIFTY rider Jake Canada had confidence going into the first 250 Heat race of the night at Chase Field in Phoenix, AZ.  With a strong 51FIFTY debut race at Anaheim, a solid week of practice and lap times near the fastest Factory riders from timed practice earlier in the day, Jake Canada could not wait for the gate to drop.

Canada, aboard his CRF250, timed the gate perfectly, with the Dunlop tires hookingBDW57005 up he rocketed into the first turn in 3rd.  On the tight track, a wide line which Jake was forced to take, allowed a couple of riders to pass early on in the heat.  Canada continued to put in fast, consistent lap times and held off, and made time, on the determined pack behind him in route to a relatively easy transfer to the main.

While the vibe around the 51FIFTY pits shifted focus from fan interaction (a CRF250/Las Vegas Give-away, Autograph Signings, Give-Aways) to race mode, there was a palpable confidence amongst Jake and the team.  As a relatively new team, without the benefit of factory parts, the goal of Top 5 seemed a distinct possibility; and to do so in front of 50,000+ fans would’ve been icing on the cake.

With Fox Sports Live cameras pointed at Jake, the gate dropped for the 250 Main.  BDW57370With the deepest field in years, it was the Proven Moto-built CRF250 engine of the #66 that was up front early.  Getting pushed a bit wide in the next turn, Jake sat in a solid 4th with 18 riders pushing from behind. Unfortunately for Canada, he collided mid-air with another rider, landed, hit a tuff-block and careened off the track.  After a few tense seconds, the likable Sun City native walked over to his bike to reenter the race, entered the track, but was simply too sore to finish the race.

While the final result was disappointing, there are positives we take away from Arizona, “ explains 51FIFTY Team Manager, Jeremy Coker. “Jake will sit out a few days of practice but is expected to make a full recovery and be ready next weekend for Anaheim #2.”

Proven Moto Powered Jake Canada Shows Speed at Anaheim Supercross

Livingston, CA (January 7, 2014) – 51FIFTY Energy entered the Supercross with a new rider in Jake Canada (#66), new team staff and created an immediate positive impression both on and off the track in the debut round for the 2014 season.

The 51FIFTY Energy Drink pits were buzzing as thousands of fans from the sold-out event visited the team pits throughout the day. Fans experienced a meet and greet with Jake Canada during the autograph signing and received free samples and other give-aways. Fans also had the opportunity to enter to win a 2013 SX Honda CRF250R and trip for two to the Vegas SX.Jake A1 1 They could also donate ‘Loose Change’ to the 51FIFTY Autism Money Car in support of their Race for Autism campaign.

When the gate dropped for the the first 250 Heat race of the season, Jake rocketed out on his CRF250R and came around the first turn in 2nd to the screams of his mechanic Drew Hopkins. Riding, admittedly, tight in the first few laps, Jake relinquished a few positions to the factory-backed riders but gathered himself together, put in solid laps and with a top 5 finish transferred directly to the main.

With 45,000+ screaming fans eagerly awaiting the gate drop for the first Main Event in 2014, Jake and another rider came together in the first few feet. Determined to move forward, Jake went wide in one of the high bowl berms and was pushed off the track, tipping over down the hill. Spotting the field nearly 20 seconds, Canada showed the speed, promise, and endurance Team Manager Jeremy Coker expected when he signed the likable local Temecula rider.

“The adage still applies, ‘you can’t win a championship at Round 1, but you can certainly lose it,’ explained Jeremy Coker. “Jake showed everyone the heart and speed he possesses and charged from dead last, passing riders every lap to finish 12th. We’re proud of his effort and confident he’ll be up front all year.”

“I’m never happy with 12th place but my speed was there and I made solid passes in the main,” explained Jake Canada. “Nobody wants to be in dead last after thJake A1 2e first lap but I stayed focused and worked my way forward. The positive I take-away is that I have the speed and was as strong on the last lap as I was on the first. Phoenix can’t come fast enough!”

Jake was determined to see where his speed was at racing against factory-backed riders, Cooper Webb, Shane McElrath, and Dean Wilson.  Respectively, Jake holeshot and won his Heat race, then went on to holeshot and get 2nd in his Semi-Final race.

When the gates dropped for the 5-man-gate in the Final, Jake didn’t get the start he was hoping for and wheelied off the line.  Starting in last position, then having a near crash before the finish line jump, Jake powered his way to fourth by the finish, missing the podium by one position.

Proven Moto’s Matt and Chelsea Jory were at the race and very excited with what they witnessed.  “Jake has talent for sure, and definitely has what it takes to be a top contender in the 2014 SX series.  This is really exciting for Proven Moto!” -Matt
